Our Philosophy

St. Edward School is founded on the person of Jesus Christ and is enlivened by Gospel values. We believe in demonstrating a special concern the uniqueness of each person by emphasizing education in searching for personal meaning.  St. Edward School highlights the relevance of our faith to life and contemporary culture. We believe in expressing a distinctly Catholic view on issues in society by offering a curriculum that is relevant to individual students and which helps them find meaning in their own life experiences. Our school is embedded within the community of believers and shares in the mission of the Church. We believe that each group must share and accept the responsibility of communicating with one another in order to gain the mutual respect within the total faith community. We are committed to the development of the school, the faith community, and are part of the local Church, community, and Diocese of Peoria. We are committed to the development of the whole person. We believe in providing experiences designed to foster the growth of the whole person - spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. These ideals may only be accomplished through a spirit of cooperation shared among the following groups: school family, school staff, parents, and students. The school working with the parents provides the students the opportunity to grow in their faith and scholarship through a quality curriculum.

Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement is key at St. Edward. We have a parent organization as well as many volunteer opportunities within the school. This allows parents to get involved in their child's academic as well as extracurricular interests.

Kids Helping Kids

Another positive aspect is the ability for the older and younger students to mesh together through worship at the Friday children's mass. St. Edward students are helping the younger and older generation by their involvement with the preschool and the area retirement community. At the retirement community, classes take turns going to the community and sharing mass once a week. The older classes are also involved with tutoring the younger children in the Pre-school, going to the school and working with and reading to the students there.

Activities and Events

Extracurricular activities cover many interests; Music, Declamation, and Sports. After school programs such as Cooking and Spanish are also offered. Sports programs that are offered consist of: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball and Track. For working families St. Edward has a structured Aftercare Program for the students. Breakfast is also available for children from 7:00 - 7:30 am. Throughout the school year there are many activities such as the Catholic Schools Week Celebration, Spirit Week, Art Day, Annual Book Fair and various Field Trips. As well as the  sacramental Celebrations of First Communion, First Reconciliation and Confirmation.

Our Mission

St. Edward School is established within the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. It is an integral part of St. Edward Parish Community of believers and shares in the mission of the church. St. Edward School is an elementary (Pre-K thru 8), co-educational school which serves the Chillicothe area. The faculty and staff strive to develop the whole person by providing a quality education. The students will carry with them a guide for Christian living, value of family, community spirit and the desire to succeed and make a difference in our society. The students are urged to be persons of faith and prayer, reflecting their Christian values at worship, work, and play. St. Edward has kept abreast of the monumental changes taking place in the academic world for many years. Across the country, schools have begun taking the critical first steps towards invigorating education with the power of technology. St. Edward School believes that computers and access to the Internet offers students and teachers vast resources and tremendous opportunities to communicate and work together.
